RESUME: The Watercooler #008

27 Jan

The Watercooler #008
Mike Dawson, Matt Fondiler, Gary Smith, Caelan Biehn, Nick Davis, and I kick back at the watercooler. I recall an unpleasant experience I had with a couple of pedestrians. Dawson discusses some of his favorite things he saw at the NAMM show this past weekend. Gary shares his thoughts on the Amazon Fire Stick. Matt Fondiler suggests a new way to be chivalrous. Nick gives his Superbowl picks. And Caelan leaves early. Again. But it’s ok because he got a new puppy.

The most common 3d printed materials are ABS plastics with different poly blends (referring to the chemical makeup) for different mechanical or aesthetic properties. Nylon with additives (such as aluminum) are also becoming more popular for finished parts put in to end use. They can print metal objects as well but this process is still very expensive. SLS, SLA and DMLS are the respective processes for the materials above.

And still the way to make a real part that needs the properties of metal is still metal on a mill. For now anyway.
